Vinyl flooring is the best material for a basement because of its ability to resist moisture, it has been claimed.
Writing in to the Washington Post, a reader of a home interiors advice section spoke of using a "great product" that is made of vinyl and is so water-resistant that the salesman stated it could even be installed underwater.
The item, which looks like wood, is a floating floor installed with a click system, which means it does not require a subfloor to be in place first.
In addition to this, the product does not scratch or stain and has "worn very well" over the year since it was installed, the reader commented.
The writer of the comment said the vinyl looked like wood and the ability of the substance to closely resemble other materials has been praised before.
Earlier this month, Cheryl Weted of Son Shine Floor Covering and Design Center in Warren, California, told C & G News that one vinyl flooring product "looks so much like real tile that people have to actually touch it to tell the difference".
