Vinyl flooring wins World Cup

Vinyl flooring will take precedence over grass for the first act of the 2010 football World Cup finals as preparations for the draw are finalised.

The sport's world governing body Fifa has released details of the props and manpower that have gone into setting up the auditorium at the International Convention Centre in Cape Town next week as the world finds out who plays who in the group stages.

Among these items is 500 sq ft of black reflective vinyl flooring, upon which officials, coaches and leading personalities will walk on December 4th as the balls are drawn out and the 32 qualifying nations find out who they will play.

Most of the items for the show were made in Cape Town itself, with some coming from Johannesburg.

Commenting on the forthcoming occasion, venue manager Teral Cullen said: "All parties involved sense we're building something special and we're set for and working hard to deliver a spectacular event."

The next World Cup after South Africa will take place in Brazil in 2014, with England among the bidders to host the 2018 event.
