Vinyl qualities make it material of choice for new centre

The qualities that vinyl has have made it the material of choice for an antenatal clinic in New Zealand.

An old worn carpet at the Queen Mary Maternity Centre in Dunedin is to be replaced with the material, the Otago Daily Times reports.

The paper notes that vinyl is being put down in its place because it is a more hygienic material.

Another reason noted for the choice is that it is a safer material, with much of the carpet having come loose from its backing.

The flooring work means the centre will be closed through October and part of November, with services transferred to a nearby venue.

Earlier this month, Gene Austin of the McClatchy Tribune News Service said that one of the qualities of vinyl is its flexibility.

He said this made it a good alternative to ceramic floor tiles in kitchens, as the latter can crack when the ground under floors becomes uneven.
