Westco aims to cut waste

A Welsh flooring company is taking steps to save 20 tonnes of cardboard each year.

Westco, which is based in Cardiff, is implementing a number of measures to reduce waste and improve efficiency, the Western Mail reports.

Operations director at the manufacturer Markus Burkhardt explained that the moves will benefit both the environment and the firm's commercial standing.

"In today’s carbon-conscious world we are confident that we can significantly enhance our reputation by taking steps to reduce our packaging and improve our environmental performance," he said.

Unnecessary packaging is being cut down by packing flooring and flooring accessories in larger quantities, while Westco's fleet of 13 forklifts is being replaced with new, more energy-efficient vehicles.

Having been formed more than 75 years ago, Westco now operates in over 90 countries around the world.

It produces a range of laminate flooring products, as well as using cork, vinyl and other materials.
