Blogging for Valpolife.com, writer Tudor Floors One said it is important not to use water or a chemical that mixes with water when cleaning or mopping a hardwood floor.
Instead, it was suggested, a soft cloth combined with cleaning products recommended by the manufacturer should be adopted.
This is because water can dull the floor, the writer said.
Further warnings were issued against exposing the surface to furniture with narrow castors, whereas barrel-like wheels are better because they are wider and spread the weight.
Similarly, sources of concentrated pressure like stiletto heels should also be avoided and it was further noted that exposure to lots of sunlight can make the colour fade.
Those keen on buying a new wood floor from UK Flooring Direct can choose from a wide range of solid and engineered floors.
These include familiar materials like ash, oak, beech and walnut, as well as unusual ones like wenge, jatoba and iroko.
