Wood flooring 'offers sustainable option'
5th November 2009
One company specialising in turning old wood into new floors is Nyack Wide Plank Flooring in New York State, Lo Hud reports.
The company produces various wood products but much of its wares come from old barns that are then recycled at a mill in the town of Syracuse.
Commenting on the visual impact of an attractive floor, company co-owner Kevin Hastings told the news provider: "Put it in your kitchen and people will talk about your floor, not your cabinets."
The wood used by the company has been utilised for a variety of homes, with planking refined with sanding and coating with polyurethane.
Using reclaimed wood flooring is one of the best ways to "spice up" a kitchen by making it greener, Home & Garden Magazine advised recently.
