Wood flooring part of Styrofoam home

Wood flooring is a feature of an unusual house that is made largely from Styrofoam.

The home in Oregon has been constructed from a combination of the unconventional substance, concrete and aluminium, the Bee reports.

However, it was also noted to have hickory wood floors, which may suggest that a traditional and natural material has a place even in a home using innovative new construction materials.

Bill and Carole Meyer recently finished the home they started building in 2006, which has thick and well insulated walls, ensuring that the couple need to use far less energy to heat it.

In all, there are 820 styrofoam blocks in it, with each being four feet in length and 16 inches tall.

A more traditional home up for sale that uses wood flooring is Collieston Hall near Hightown in Aberdeenshire, which has a cherry hardwood floor in its grand reception alongside oak in various other parts of the home, such as its doors, the Aberdeen Press and Journal reported this week.
