Wood floors recommended for allergies

Medical professionals are advocating wood flooring for anyone with allergies as the perfect alternative to carpets, which can aggravate medical problems.

Dr Kathryn Winters works in New Mexico where allergy problems are particularly prevalent and one of the tips she gives to patients hoping to avoid excessive allergen exposure is to opt for solid wood floors rather than carpets.

Carpets can cause real problems with anyone who has moderate to severe allergies as they hold dust and other allergens.

Even regular and thorough cleaning will often not make a difference as carpets will always hold on to more allergens than other floors.

Wood flooring makes it easier because the allergens won’t be held and these are much easier to clean to rid rooms of dust which can cause allergies to flare up.

In an interview with Cannon Connections Dr Winters also advises choosing blinds, rather than curtains, to further eliminate allergens.

Although wood flooring is an ideal solution for anyone finding it difficult to cope with allergies when faced with carpets, vinyl flooring, bamboo and cork are also great options to prevent excessive allergen exposure.
