Wooden floor installed for skating championship

A solid wood floor which will be used for the USA Roller Sports National Championships took the team of ten staff seven hours to install, just days before the start of the competition.

The wooden floor arrived in 523 different pieces, which then had to be assembled to form the 184 foot by 84 foot surface in readiness for two skating championships in the next few weeks.

Rick Heard, project manager, told The Journal Gazette that it was like putting together a giant jigsaw puzzle and praised the efforts of those working on the installation.

The smooth hardwood surface is ideal for the demands placed on it within these competitions. Wooden flooring is very hardwearing which is necessary because of the high impact caused in skating.

It is also easy to achieve an incredibly smooth finish on solid wood flooring to allow the professional skaters to perform to the best of their abilities and really stand out.

The floor was installed in one day at the Memorial Coliseum’s Expo Centre in Fort Wayne where the two skating championships will take place.

The speed skating event is running from 17th to 23rd July and then the figure skating competition starts 24th July and finishes 7th August.
