Wooden flooring in a council chamber is one of the new features of a large-scale makeover.
Kempegowda Council Hall in Bangalore has seen the flooring introduced as an election approaches, the Times of India reports.
Those successfully battling it out at the hustings to win a seat will be able to enjoy walking on the new floors, although some old carpets have been retained.
Other alterations include the introduction of 198 new seats decked in orange to replace the old purple ones, the installation of new speakers and the provision of new microphones for each member of the assembly.
The work began three weeks ago and is expected to be completed next week.
Last month, the introduction of hardwood flooring in a rather different kind of hall was praised.
Time Out Chicago magazine said of the new Lincoln Hall venue: "With it's hardwood floors, disco ball and intimate proportions, it's a beautiful addition to the city's nightlife."
