Wool Carpet part of eco-friendly medical centre

A doctor in New Jersey has been recognised for her work in using non-toxic materials to makeover her medical practice, including a wool carpet.

In addition to her 'exceptional healthcare', Dr Jennifer Ashton has been presented with an award for Outstanding Service to her Englewood Cliffs community after opening the first eco-friendly medical centre in the state.

Despite being housed in an historic clock tower building, the centre boasts state-of-the-art materials, with the 100 per cent wool carpet both non-toxic and pleasing to the look and to the touch.

At the same time, cork flooring has been used in the examination rooms, again so as to improve the building's eco-footprint and cut back on toxicity, while furniture such as cabinets and tables have been crafted from recycled glass and sustainable wood.

Presenting the award, local politician Valerie Huttle said: "Those individuals who convert their operations on their own initiative have a high degree of social and environmental consciousness and should be commended for it. Jennifer Ashton is one of those individuals."

News of the award comes as Wools of New Zealand has been showing off its wool carpets, in Las Vegas.
