An expert on environmental issues has said wool carpets are a good choice for those looking to implement sustainable flooring.
Writing for the Santa Cruz Sentinel, Jennifer Parish of Go Green said wool was her preferred carpeting material, as it includes no petrochemicals.
She noted: "Not only is it recyclable, but it's a natural, biodegradable product."
Those wishing to have really green carpets can look for dye-free and chemical free products, she noted, while using the lowest possible toxic level adhesive to fix the carpets in place is another consideration.
Makers of wool carpets and other woollen products have recently been teaming together to ensure that products are not being passed off as being made of the material when they are partly comprised of something else.
The International Wool Textile Organisation has seen successes in its campaign, such as a move to stop US firm Shaw Contract Group describing a product as "woollen", Fibre2Fashion recently reported.
