Trending – Modern Victorian
November 1st, 2020

With a shift from minimalist, grey and white colour palettes to vibrant, maximalist styles, its clear trends are ever-changing. The Modern Victorian trend has been rising for the past few years, seeing a change in the way trend fusions influence our home styling.

How to achieve the Modern Victorian look

To achieve this style, take the traditional detailing of your room, whether that be your ceilings or your architrave, along with the original features, and contrast these with modern light fittings, accessories, and soft furnishings.

Another way to do this is by mixing colours, such as pastels with darker tones. This trend effectively merges two eras to achieve a unique twist on the old and the new.

The perfect flooring to match…

Using Audacity Homestead Oak Laminate to perfectly encapsulate this trend, @Jodievictoriia has created the Modern Victorian bathroom of dreams. Starting with a blank canvas, Jodie created traditional wooden panelling around the room, continuing the detail around the windows and doors using an ultra-modern dark blue-grey. Giving the room a dramatic impact that cleverly highlights the juxtaposition of both styles. Contrasting this against the pastel pink door and modern geometric accessories, with a complementary splash of greenery – love it!

We caught up with Jodie to find out how she nailed this look, including her project tips and favourite finds.

  1. How would you describe your style?
I love Victorian houses and furniture, but I also love combining modern and boho designs – that’s why this trend is right up my street!
  2. What are your favourite parts of the room?
Probably the traditional style bathtub and radiator, as they bring the bathroom together.
  3. How did you decide on your floor?
We chose Audacity Homestead Oak Laminate, as it’s ideal for bathrooms and the perfect DIY project – my husband did a fantastic job of installing it.
  4. Did you sample beforehand?
Yes, we ordered a handful online and placed them in the room for a few days before choosing our favourite. The samples are such a good size, so you get an idea of how it’ll look.
  5. What tips do you have for first-time renovators?
Giving yourself enough time as you never know what may happen along the way. It’s always best to be prepared! It also meant we could take our time to ensure everything was exactly as we wanted.
