At Your Home of Inspiration we’re always searching for the next big thing, trawling the web and high street on the look out for current trends and those that may spring up in the future. This month we take you on a seafaring adventure, so prepare to have your imagination well and truly caught…
We love it when a new theme starts to create waves in the world of interior design, and if you’re an avid reader of home interest magazines and blogs, you could not have failed to see how much exposure is being given to all things nautical. To be honest, this should come as no surprise.
One of the great draws of the nautical theme is its sheer flexibility. This is no bad thing, and as we’ve said before there’s no fun in conforming! You could attempt a shiny, modern finish which wouldn’t look out of place on a lavish yacht mooring in Monte Carlo: think clean colour schemes and block structures with an abundant light source, Series Elements Lisboa Beige the ideal laminate floor for the job.
But we prefer to take a rustic turn, inspired by sisal, rope-like materials and in keeping with traditional sea faring interior. In our eyes this is pure charm, with your usual array of coastal bits and pieces: lighthouses, anchors, wicker baskets, all easy to find if looking to recreate. We think a distressed-look wooden floor would fit perfectly in shades at the lighter end of the spectrum (Barlinek Vintage Ivory is a particular favourite).
Now we could bombard you with accessories, your boats, blues and coastal tidbits, but you’re more than capable of exploring for yourself. There is almost too much choice with this theme, so it’s unlikely you’ll find two nautical interiors the same. Of course, calming shades of blue are likely to be a favourite, but if you have a blank canvas then why not defy convention and create something unique. It’s time to set sail.
