City Metropolitan European Rustic Oak 180mm Brushed & Oiled Engineered Flooring is a deep and warm-looking product, with UV oil giving it a welcoming and traditional look.

Made from rustic grade oak, it brings out the full beauty and colour variation of oak with an array of lines, rings and knots of varying sizes filled and finished. To add further natural character the floor displays sapwood and mineralisation, while the natural grain is enhanced by the oiling, which also gives the wood greater durability.

Each plank is 180mm wide, 14mm thick and comes in excellent standard lengths of 2200mm. Its attractive visual appearance is given extra impact by the planks having bevelled edges on all four sides, giving the planks greater definition. The top hardwood layer is 2.5 mm and is tough enough to last around 20 years in most cases without needing to be sanded, although this can be done up to three times in its lifetime.

City Metropolitan European Rustic Oak 180mm Brushed & Oiled Engineered Flooring Installation Guide

Engineered floors are very dimensionally stable allowing them to be installed over most types of sub floors. They are suitable for all areas of the house except bathrooms and wet areas. They are also suitable for use over under floor heating. Due to their stability they only need acclimatising for 48 hours, to correctly acclimatise your engineered floor it should be left in the room it is going to be fitted in at normal room temperature.

City Metropolitan European Rustic Oak 180mm Brushed & Oiled Engineered Flooring has a click installation system and can be installed as a floating floor which is the most common and DIY friendly installation method because it is the easiest and the fastest to do, can be installed over any type of subfloor and it does not require any special skills or prior experience in installing floors as the floors just clicks together with no need for any glue.

All floating flooring installations must use an approved underlay. Over a concrete subfloor you will need to use a underlay which has a built in vapour barrier like Cushion Plus White Underlay, while over a wooden subfloor you can use the Cushion Standard White Underlay. For installations over under floor heating we recommend using Cushion Heat Flow underlay. Superior underlays like Cushion Ultra Silver Underlay and Cushion Premium Black Underlay can be used to give better support to your new flooring which prolongs the life and also aids during installation by removing some minor imperfections from the sub-floor. Also for improved noise reduction we recommend the Cushion Acoustic Pro Underlay, bringing peace and quiet to the room.

Each board has a click profile on all four sides to join the boards together simply insert the tongue into the groove at a high angle and then push the board down; the boards will then click together.

You will need to leave a 10mm expansion gap around the perimeter of the room. To maintain this gap during installation spacers are provided in the installation kits (purchased separately).

After you have installed the floor you can cover this expansion gap with scotia / beading or you can replace you old skirting boards with new ones, this gives a much more professional finish. The 10mm expansion gap also needs to be left in doorways where the floor follows through from one room to another; we have a full range of door profiles available to match your floor.

The above is a brief guideline on the installation of engineered flooring; always refer to the manufactures installation guidelines contained within packs of the flooring or visit out Flooring Manufacture Installation Guides

City Metropolitan European Rustic Oak 180mm Brushed & Oiled Engineered Flooring Maintenance Flooring Guide

In order to ensure lasting satisfaction from your new oil finished floor, it is important to correctly care for the floor from the off, starting immediately after installation. With the right care, the oiled floor will become increasingly easy to clean and more hard wearing over time. This is because the recommended soap used to clean the floor, actually coats it with an invisible film, providing additional protection and thus making the floor more resistant to dirt. The floor can also be re-oiled as part of a regular maintenance program thus ensuring a lifetime of use and enjoyment.

After-Installation Care

All oiled floors are recommended to be thoroughly cleaned with “Easy Clean Oiled Flooring Natural Soap Cleaner” right after installation and as a regular cleaning regime.  As a result of this the surface will then be more hardwearing and be easier to clean and maintain in the future.

Normal cleaning to remove surface debris is accomplished using a broom and vacuum cleaner. In order to achieve the best cleaning possible use, “Easy Clean Oiled Flooring Natural Soap Cleaner” a highly concentrated soap for cleaning and maintenance of oiled wooden surfaces, suitable for flooring, furniture, kitchen surfaces, and all indoor wood.

 Instruction for use:

1. Shake thoroughly prior to use.

2. Always use two buckets: one – for the soap solution, the other – water for rinsing.

3. Mix approx. 250ml of the soap with 10L of warm water and apply a thin layer onto the flooring; particularly soiled areas should be cleaned with a brush or cloth first.

4. Rinse the cloth or mop in the second bucket and wipe the floor dry.

5. Water in the other bucket should be changed regularly so as to prevent spreading the already removed dirt back onto the floor.

6. Do not wipe the floor with pure water as the protective soya and coconut oils will be removed!

7. With each subsequent use of the soap, the floor will become less susceptible to soiling.

Coverage approx. 50-80 m2/l, Dependent on wood type.

Cleaning Extremely Dirty Floors

If the floor has been neglected and/or becomes very dirty, it should be cleaned using “Easy Clean Oiled Flooring Intensive Cleaner,” developed for deep penetration of the woods fibre, helping to lift the grain and encourage absorption of a new application of “Easy Clean Oiled Flooring Refresher.”

Instructions for use

7. With each subsequent use of the soap, the floor will become less susceptible to soiling.

Coverage approx. 50-80 m2/l, Dependent on wood type.

Maintenance Oil Application

“Easy Clean Oiled Flooring Refresher,” for use on all oiled wooden surfaces.

Used once or twice a year, depending on the level of dirt, to restore and protect, if the floor has become dull and tired looking. It will help in everyday care and reinforces the floors resistance to dirt, and help to give it a new lease of life.

3. Make sure you leave no excess oil on the surface.

4. Within approx. 4 hrs. The floor may be walked on, though the full hardening time is 24 hrs. During which time the floor must not be cleaned with water and should be used sparingly and with care.

5. For future after care and routine cleaning  maintenance “Easy Clean Oiled Flooring Natural Soap Cleaner,” is then recommended.

I have it throughout my upstairs and the staircase. I got the wide planks as I have an old house and they are more traditional.\n\n I would have had it downstairs too but unfortunately I got the downstairs wood from another company several years ago.

This flooring is really beautiful. I chose the 180mm width as it is more in keeping with the age of my house. The colour of the wood is very pleasant too, unlike some oaks which tend to be too yellowish. I am delighted with it.

The wood looks good. However, for an engineered wood, the installation is a pain. \n\nThe sides are easy to click together but the ends are a nightmare to join. Unlike the sides, the ends do not click and leaves a large gap which needs to be knocked into place. This may sound fine until you realise that once the side is clicked to previous room, the plank is basically locked into position and it is very difficult to knock the ends into place (i.e. you got to knock pretty hard).\n\nI contacted customer support and they said that my room (which is a typical living room in England) temperature & humidity got to be exactly same as the manufacturer's guide. This seemed to defeats the purpose of using engineered wood, which suppose to withstand moisture and temperature.

not as good quality as the other samples I ordered - but much cheaper. It has less layers making up the base so less stable with underfloor heating.

The color of this product is exactly what we're looking for. However it looks unfinished to us due probably to the fact that is oiled and not lacquered and probably more suitable for less modern final look.

Wanted to see the difference between engineered wood and solid wood flooring so ordered samples.\nWould recommened to those who wished to have a "solid" wood floor appearance but at a lesser price.\nOnly downside for us was the thickness of the solid layer of wood. May not necessarily hold up to repeated sanding down in high taffic areas that may result in deep scratches etc.

I used the sample to compare quality and colour.\nI was recommended by a friend to use engineered wood with underfloor heating. The colour is lovely, and the width is wider than usual. Appears to be excellent value for money.

originally wanted a fully wood floor. We needed the floor for an open plan kitchen / conservatory so an engineered floor is recommended due to heat, sunlight and expansion. the quality and appearance of the engineered floor is as good as the fully wood flooring. lovely wide planks and a really rustic appearance.
