Turkmen carpet fans gather for celebration

Connoisseurs and experts from around the world have gathered in the capital Ashgabat for the 10th International Conference of the World Society of Connoisseurs of Turkmen carpet, which began on the final weekend in May.
The conference has been discussing the origins and development of the country's carpet industry, studying ancient samples and seeking to promote the tradition.
An exhibition seeking to do just this - entitled Turkmen carpet - the melody of our soul - was simultaneously held in the city.
In addition to the country's carpets being on display in its own capital, examples of the craft have also been on display in Russia.
Turkmenistan.ru noted last week that carpets and other products from the nation were on display as part of an art exhibition at the State Museum of Oriental Art in Moscow, which ran from May 25th to 30th.
