Green honours for vinyl manufacturer
Polyflor has been given the prestigious honour of being the first flooring company to be awarded the Australia and New Zealand Ecospecifier’s Green Tag life cycle assessment certification.
The company achieved full points in the assessment by the Green Building Council in each country respectively and Polyflor were granted the award in December 2010.
Environmental issues are a primary concern for the vinyl flooring company which was founded in 1915 and prides itself on innovative product development.
A spokesperson for the company said: “We strive to be an environmentally and economically sustainable business, recycling and reducing waste and being as carbon neutral as possible.
“Our new product development continues to focus on reducing environmental impact.”
Polyflor has an exemplary track record for environmental assessments and advertises vinyl floors as positive green options as well as a particularly safe choice.
Australia’s assessment for environmentally-friendly flooring changed in July 2010 in order to recognise the green achievements of flooring manufacturers.
Polyflor marketing manager, Peter Bates, was pleased by the new assessment methods which allowed a more level playing field.
He said: “The whole of a product’s life-cycle is now taken into account in assessing how green the product is without the favourable weighting given to products that are made from renewable resources, which in some instances require more energy to produce and maintain.”
