The Inspiration Centre at #LDF15
Late September is a busy old time in the London design world, with the annual London Design Festival bringing the latest trends to interior designers through shows across the capital. On the hunt for the latest inspiration, we put on our comfiest shoes and headed in to the big smoke to discover just what styles will be hitting the streets in 2016.
First stop was Decorex, a show known for high-end interior design. We are talking serious money here and saw lots of amazing creativity, particularly in rugs, fabrics and wallcoverings where beautiful organic textures ruled. The haunt of celebrity interior designers - we spotted the very glam Celia Sawyer among others – the show revealed a trend for huge wide and long planks. Up to 450mm wide and anywhere to 17 metres in length, this is flooring on a grand scale. Too big for all but the grandest of mansions, we are already bringing this trend in a dimension perfect for most homes, with our extra-wide Galleria Professional floors.
Hot footing it away from Decorex, we then used most forms of public transport to get us across London to Olympia for 100% Design. Compared to Decorex this is very much a commercial interior design show but it’s still well worth a trip, as we’ll often see these trends working their way through to residential homes down the line. There were plenty of interesting surface textures going on here and concrete seemed to be particularly in vogue, with everything from sinks and chairs being cast in this big and bold architectural material. We also spotted metallic textures and organic shapes in rugs as potential big news for next year.
Our final destination was the über-hip, designjunction that showcases emerging design talent and smaller designer maker brands. We absolutely loved this show for its great mix of wearables, luxury goods and interior design all rolled in to one. It’s a good job we left our credit cards at home! This show has a real contemporary vibe, so there were lots of strong geometrics and really bold use of colour, particularly in rugs and textiles. Our contemporary rugs offer a great more usable twist on these style cues and a perfect for adding a big splash of colour into your room. We also spotted one of our fav illustrators in the amazing Vic Lee, creating a huge mural. We just love his pen and ink work!
We spotted absolutely tonnes to get us inspired and our creative team is already busy behind the scenes developing some great new flooring ideas. Keep your eye out for some great trend-driven introductions at UK Flooring Direct next year.
